Sheepskins are not only wonderfully soft and warm, but also a stylish statement in the home. To maintain the natural beauty and texture of the fleece, regular and careful maintenance is required. Here's how to clean and care for your sheepskin.

Daily Care

Shake out: Start with the basics; shake out your sheepskin regularly outside. This helps remove dust and small dirt particles. A light pat can also help keep it fluffy.

Brushing: You can use a special coat brush or a dog brush to gently brush the coat. This helps remove tangles and keeps the coat nice and fluffy.

Deep Cleansing

Stain removal: Treat stains as soon as possible. Use a damp cloth with a mild detergent, such as wool detergent, and dab on the stain. Avoid rubbing hard, as this can damage the coat.

Hand wash: For more thorough cleaning, you can wash the sheepskin by hand. Use cold water and an appropriate wool detergent. Do not soak the coat, but gently move it through the water. Rinse thoroughly with clean, cold water.

Drying

Natural drying: Lay the sheepskin flat on a towel and roll it up to absorb excess water. Then lay it flat on a new, dry towel and let it air dry, out of direct sunlight. Avoid using a dryer or direct heat sources, as these can damage the coat.

Shaping: While the coat is still damp, you can gently stretch it to maintain its original shape. Brush it again gently when it is almost dry to fluff the fibers.

!!Our own experience is that a washed sheepskin is really the last resort, the leather can become very hard and the original oil will also disappear from the sheepskin. As soft as the sheepskin was when you bought it, it will never be as soft again, but you can try it as a last resort at the risk of having to buy a new one. So do not do this with an expensive patchwork rug, when in doubt always contact us and we will try to help you in consultation!!!

Additional Tips

  • Avoid spills: Place your sheepskin in an area where there is little chance of spills. Regular exposure to moisture can lead to stubborn stains and odors.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Cleaning products with harsh chemicals are harmful to the sheepskin's delicate fibers and can ruin them.

By following these tips, you will ensure that your sheepskin stays looking beautiful year after year. Enjoy the luxury and comfort of your sheepskin with proper maintenance!
